Job description

  • Compensation: USD 160000 - USD 210000 - yearly
Company Description

We were early to the fight against Ubiquitous Technical Surveillance, and we’ve been pushing the edge ever since.

Our mission is to help government and enterprise organizations understand and manage commercial data risks, shape their digital signatures, and operate with confidence in an increasingly complex information landscape. We build and integrate advanced, tech-forward solutions to problems our customers often don’t know they have – until it matters most.

We move fast, think critically, and deliver where it counts.

What’s in it for you?

We work hard and do fun things.

You’ll work on high-impact, technically challenging problems alongside a team that values teamwork over competition. Veilant offers a solid work-life balance and flexible remote work options. At Veilant, you’ll work with the most talented software developers, systems engineers, and subject matter experts, building tools and systems that make a real difference.

Job Description

Veilant is seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations in support of System High, a wholly owned subsidiary of Veilant, and help strengthen the financial infrastructure supporting the organization’s continued growth in the government contracting market.

Reporting directly to the SVP of Finance, the Controller will serve as the senior accounting leader responsible for the integrity of financial reporting, general ledger, cost accounting, internal controls, and government contracting compliance for the System High business.

This is a hands-on leadership role for an accomplished accounting professional who understands the complexities of operating in a federal contracting environment. The successful candidate will combine deep technical accounting expertise with strong operational judgment and the ability to translate financial information into clear, actionable insights for Veilant and System High leadership.

What Success Looks Like in the First Six Months

The Controller will be expected to:

  • Strengthen the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting and close environments. Assess current accounting processes and internal controls to establish a disciplined, timely month-end close and financial reporting process with strong reconciliations, documentation, and accountability.
  • Lead GovCon compliance and audit readiness. Evaluate System High’s accounting practices for alignment with GAAP and government contracting requirements, including DCAA expectations, cost accounting, indirect cost allocation, timekeeping, billing, and supporting documentation.
  • Optimize Costpoint and financial reporting. Assess how Deltek Costpoint is being used across the accounting function and improve the quality, consistency, and timeliness of financial information provided to the SVP of Finance and executive leadership.

What You’ll Own

As Controller, you will lead the day-to-day accounting function supporting System High while establishing the processes, controls, and discipline necessary to support growth.

  • Lead all core accounting activities, including general ledger, month-end and year-end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation.
  • Ensure financial statements and accounting practices are maintained in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Maintain appropriate indirect cost pools, allocation methodologies, and supporting schedules.
  • Support development and monitoring of provisional billing rates and indirect rates.
  • Maintain accounting practices and documentation that support DCAA audit readiness and compliance.
  • Oversee accounting processes related to government contracts, including labor, timekeeping, billing, cost allowability, and supporting documentation.
  • Lead preparation for DCAA, external financial, and other applicable audits.
  • Establish, document, and maintain effective internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Drive an accurate, efficient, and predictable monthly and annual financial close.
  • Ensure the integrity and effective use of Deltek Costpoint and cost accounting across the business.
  • Produce timely and accurate financial reporting for the SVP of Finance, System High leadership, and Veilant executive leadership.
  • Partner with executive and cross-function leaders to improve accounting processes, systems, automation, reporting, and scalability in support of growth
  • Lead, develop, empower, and and continue to mentor members of the accounting organization.
  • Support the SVP of Finance on strategic financial initiatives fomenting growth.
Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

  • 15+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including significant leadership responsibility.
  • Significant accounting experience within the U.S. federal government contracting industry.
  • Active CPA license required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Active Secret security clearance required.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Strong command of general ledger accounting, month-end close, financial statement preparation, and account reconciliation.
  • Demonstrated expertise in government contract and cost accounting.
  • Strong working knowledge of DCAA requirements, audits, and accounting system expectations.
  • Significant hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint.
  • Experience with indirect cost structures, allocation methodologies, and government contractor billing practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and strengthen accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Experience leading accounting teams in a complex, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to communicate complex accounting and financial matters clearly to senior executives and non-financial stakeholders.

The Leader We’re Looking For

The right Controller will be both technically strong and highly operational. You should be comfortable moving between detailed accounting issues and executive-level discussions, identifying problems before they become larger issues, and creating structure where processes need to mature.

You will thrive in this role if you take ownership, value accuracy and accountability, understand the demands of the government contracting environment, and enjoy building accounting operations that enable a business to scale.
