Job summary

Sprague is seeking a Control Room Operator in Springfield, NH. The CRO will be the shift lead, operating and monitoring the biomass power plant, ensuring safe, efficient day-to-day operations and reporting on process variables.

The role requires plant operations/maintenance experience, strong communication, and the ability to coordinate with maintenance and management. The schedule is a 12-hour rotation with nights and days.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Power Plant operations and/or maintenance experience is required.
• Must have basic computer skills, including data entry.
• Must possess basic math skills.
• Good verbal communications skills are essential.
• Must be cooperative with those he/she contacts in this work and can work without direct supervision.
• Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.

Responsibilities

• Start-up, operate, shut down and secure equipment under normal and emergency conditions from the control room or in the field.
• Troubleshoot and perform basic mechanical skills to assist the facility team with preventative and reactive maintenance activities.
• Understand the process and process components to access and carry out equipment and system lockout/tagout and de-energization.
• Ensure all plant rounds are completed for inspections of all facility machinery for malfunctions or potential failures.
• Maintain logs and records of operating conditions and report irregularities.
• Perform water chemistry testing and actively dose and adjust control chemicals within limits; repair and calibrate equipment.
• Identify hazardous conditions and notify supervisor to correct.
• Understand process controls and monitor equipment performance and variances.
• Monitor process variable feedback and respond to long-term variances to ensure safe, reliable power generation.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance of ash removal, boiler and fuel systems, valves, pumps and other components.
• Develop and maintain operating procedures for safe operation.
• Conduct or assist in scheduled and forced outage maintenance work.
• Supervise or coordinate contractors performing work at the facility.
