Qualifications

  • 3+ years with industrial equipment maintenance or automation.
  • Experience with PLCs such as Allen Bradley and PanelView.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude for diagnosing failures.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical systems, motors, sensors, and controls.
  • Willingness to travel 50–60%.
  • Excellent customer service and communication.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to sites.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking a Traveling Controls Engineer to provide installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical support for custom industrial equipment at customer facilities. This individual will serve as a key point of contact for customers, ensuring equipment operates efficiently and resolving mechanical, electrical, and operational issues in the field.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, customer-focused, and comfortable traveling extensively to support equipment installations and service projects throughout North America.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, commission, and support custom industrial machinery at customer sites.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and operational equipment issues.
  • Respond to customer requests and provide technical support both on-site and remotely.
  • Lead startup activities, testing, and commissioning of newly installed equipment.
  • Coordinate and oversee equipment installation activities and third-party installation crews.
  • Assist with machine layout and direct the installation sequence of mechanical components.
  • Coordinate electrical connections, wiring, and system integration activities.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to diagnose and resolve design or performance issues.
  • Document service activities and create detailed service reports for customers and management.
  • Maintain service records, procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Provide after-hours support when customer issues arise.
  • Support spare parts identification, sales, and replacement recommendations.
  • Obtain and coordinate installation quotations as needed.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through professional communication and proactive problem-solving.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • 3+ years of experience troubleshooting and servicing industrial equipment, machinery, or automation systems.
  • Experience using PLC system (Allen Bradley, PanelView, or similar)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose equipment failures.
  • Experience reading mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, motors, sensors, and controls.
  • Ability to travel extensively (50-60% travel).
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer sites.
