Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking a Contractor in Charge (CIC) in Laredo, TX to supervise construction, maintenance, and safety compliance for freight railroads and transit systems.

The CIC ensures work within railroad rights-of-way is performed safely and in accordance with regulations. The role involves field supervision, briefing crews, tracking safety metrics, and coordinating with train personnel while traveling 50%–85% of the time.

Qualifications

• Strong computer, communication, and organizational skills.
• Communicates effectively in both verbal and written formats.
• Ability for long-term travel assignments, including multi-month deployments.
• Valid Driver's License.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a railroad company preferably in the maintenance of way or TY&E departments.
• Successfully completes all required federal, client, and company-specific training.

Responsibilities

• Oversee worksite safety and provide flagging services as needed in place of railroad personnel.
• Conduct job briefings and ensure compliance with FRA regulations during work near tracks.
• Monitor track conditions, approaching trains, and work activities to maintain safety.
• Coordinate train movements and permissions with dispatchers, engineers, and supervisors.
• Document all activities, including briefings, incident reports, daily logs, and regulatory submissions.
• Enforce Railroad, State, and Federal policies.
