Job summary

United Future in Washington DC seeks a Phlebotomist for a contract role (3 months with potential for permanent). Schedule: 7am-4pm Mon-Fri, Sat 7:30-11:30. Location: Washington DC.

Responsibilities include blood draws, labeling, centrifuging, maintaining records, and interacting with geriatric patients. Must have phlebotomy certification, 5 years venipuncture experience, HS diploma; benefits available.

Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed
• Minimum of 5 work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting
• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 1 year of experience

Responsibilities

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection as required
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and butterfly needles
• Fully understand all physician orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required
• Check all test requisitions or computer label against script for 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport
• Store specimen samples according to required temperature and protocol to maintain integrity; comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
