Job summary

Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, NM, seeks a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) for a long-term outpatient contract. You will support diagnostic testing across chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and more, ensuring timely patient care and quality results.

Licensed CLS/MLT with 2–3 years hospital lab experience, plus ASCP/AMT certification and BLS, are preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• ASCP, AMT, or equivalent certification required.
• Active BLS certification required.
• 2–3 years of experience as CLS or MLT in a hospital lab.
• Demonstrated medical/clinical lab experience.
• Rural or underserved healthcare experience preferred.
• IHS or tribal healthcare experience preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Familiarity with Electronic Health Record systems.
• U.S. citizen; ability to obtain Federal Security Clearance.
• Immunization records required.

Responsibilities

• Provide outpatient laboratory testing in chemistry, hematology, blood bank, urinalysis, serology and microbiology.
• Collect, receive, process and prepare patient specimens for testing.
• Operate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and equipment.
• Perform quality control procedures and equipment calibration.
• Analyze results and flag those needing review by staff.
• Assist with phlebotomy and specimen collection as needed.
• Document tests and results accurately and maintain records.
• Follow lab procedures, safety and quality standards.
• Collaborate with lab staff and health professionals to ensure timely patient care.
