Job description

Position Purpose

A versatile position within a dynamic nonprofit that helps communities recover after disasters and gets children back in school. The position is full-time and is responsible for setting the direction for how All Hands & Hearts speaks to donors, supporters, partners, and the public, and owns the blog, email, and social channels that carry that voice. The role keeps affected communities at the center of every story and turns that storytelling into awareness, engagement, and fundraising.

During disaster activations, the Content & Communications Lead supports response communications, working closely with the Development and Operations teams to share accurate, dignified, timely messages across channels. Between activations, the Lead plans and runs the editorial calendar and keeps a steady pipeline of ready-to-use content with the Multimedia Content Producer and Visual Content Creator.

This position is based in the U.S.

Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written and visual content under tight deadlines and in challenging environments. Experience gathering stories directly from the field and transforming them into emotionally engaging, human-centered narratives.
  • Special Competencies/Certifications Proficient with content management and distribution tools: WordPress/Gutenberg CMS, ActiveCampaign (or similar ESP), and major social media platforms (Instagram, Threads, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, TikTok). Familiarity in photography, videography, and multimedia editing — including use of programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, and CapCut (or similar). Ability to produce, edit, and package visual stories optimized for web and social media platforms. • Operates in newsroom mode when disasters strike. When a major disaster, conflict event, or rapid-response activation hits — including evenings and weekends — the role flexes into newsroom mode to get content out fast, accurately, and on-brand. This is not a clock-watching role; it follows real-world events.
  • Use AI as an assistant, not as a writer. Apply AI tools intelligently for grammar, structure, ideation, and research — but never let them write the draft. AH&H content must read as authentic, human-voiced, and recognizably distinct from AI-generated copy. The audience can tell the difference, and so can we.
