Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems – Research & Advanced Design seeks a Consulting Chief Engineer to lead a multi-disciplinary team in the Future Aircraft OU, driving research and development from concept through demonstrations and transitions of air vehicle technologies. The role is based in Redondo Beach or El Segundo, CA.

You will define technical requirements, coordinate across projects, and interface with customers and senior leadership while guiding programs under sound engineering

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline with 16 years related professional/military experience; OR a Master of Science with 14 years; OR a Ph.D. with 12 years.
• Professional experience related to air vehicle conceptual design, vehicle technology development and demonstration, or aircraft prototype development and experimental testing.
• Experience integrating multiple engineering specialties and coordinating across multiple business units, industry partners and customers.
• Active US Government Secret clearance or higher (with BI in last 6 years or Continuous Evaluation).
• Ability to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical authority for the OU, providing technical direction to funded and contracted activities.
• Act as the focal point for definition and control of technical requirements, and ensure coordination across projects.
• Serve as the principal technical interface with the customer and company senior leadership.
• Ensure programs adhere to engineering principles and company policies and quality standards.
• Oversee and ensure technical performance measures are met by the Engineering team within cost and schedule.
• Chair the Technical Review Board (TRB).
• Support program managers in risk and opportunity management by identifying and owning technical risks.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring in systems engineering applications.
