Job summary

The Travelers Indemnity Company is seeking an experienced Managing Director, Construction, to lead a team of underwriters handling construction-related risk and coverage needs. You will partner with brokers and agents to tailor solutions, negotiate complex deals, and drive profitability across a regional footprint.

The role requires deep construction risk knowledge, leadership experience, and the ability to travel for in-person meetings with partners and clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree is required.
• Eight to ten years of underwriting experience with construction risk or oil and gas.
• Experience leading or managing others.
• Prior management of a field location.
• Expert knowledge of construction risk or oil and gas products and local market.
• Strong analytical and decision-making abilities with risk awareness.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills; CPCU designation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage profitability, growth, and retention of business within a location or region.
• Partner with RVP to develop and implement business strategies for profit and growth.
• Manage relationships with brokers and agencies locally.
• Underwrite and negotiate complex, high-risk or hard-to-close deals.
• Cultivate internal and external relationships to create sales strategies and cross-sell opportunities.
• Travel to meet agents and brokers as needed.
• Provide strategic direction and coaching for team performance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
