Job summary

Travelers in Irvine, CA is seeking a Managing Director, Construction to lead a team of underwriters providing coverage for construction contractors. You will oversee profitability, growth, and renewal strategies while partnering with brokers to tailor solutions.

The ideal candidate brings 8–10 years of underwriting experience in construction risk, proven leadership, and CPCU designation, with the ability to travel for in-person meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• Eight to ten years of underwriting experience relevant to construction risk or oil and gas.
• Experience leading or managing others.
• Prior management of a field location.
• Expert level knowledge of construction risk or oil and gas products and regulatory environment.
• Strong critical thinking and decision-making aligned with risk appetite.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with agents and brokers. CPCU designation.

Responsibilities

• Manage profitability, growth, and retention of business in a location or region.
• Partner with RVP to develop and implement profitable strategies.
• Oversee relationships with brokers and agencies locally.
• Underwrite and negotiate complex, high-risk deals.
• Foster internal cross-unit collaboration to drive sales and cross-selling.
• Meet with agents/brokers in person; travel as needed.
• Coach, train, and manage team performance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
