Pay Range: Hourly rate commensurate with experience and qualifications

Start Date: Immediately

Participate in a full range of duties associated with construction field inspection and project documentation for the construction of highways, bridges, and transportation facilities using MDOT's paperless construction process (e-construction). The Construction Inspector will inspect contractor work and assist in coordinating surveying and testing needs on infrastructure projects for MDOT, Counties, Cities, and private agencies or owners. Perform engineering technical support activities, including materials testing, inspection, and compliance.

Education and Experience

Minimum Experience: 3 years of MDOT experience

Required Education: High school diploma

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to measure and compute lengths, areas, and volumes
• Experience with MDOT documentation requirements and Field Manager / FieldBook / AASHTOWare software
• Proficient in the use of electronic devices including a laptop computer and smartphone
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software, including Excel, Outlook, and Word
• Completion of various MDOT construction and/or materials testing training/certification, such as MCA/ACI Concrete Testing Level 1, Aggregate Inspection Level 1, Construction Storm Water Operator

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Complete Inspector Daily Reports (IDRs) documenting contractor work activities
• Generate computations supporting pay items included on IDRs
• Communicate effectively with contractors, clients, GLEG staff, and other project stakeholders
• Willingness to work extended hours, including nights and weekends, depending on project needs

Additional Requirements and Information

• Possession of a valid driver's license with a good driving record
