Job summary

ESPO Corporation is seeking a Staff Accountant / Bookkeeper to manage day-to-day accounting, payroll, and financial reporting for our Chicago/Southside or Dallas operations. This hands-on role requires accuracy, strong detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Construction accounting experience and Sage 100 Contractor familiarity are highly preferred, along with union payroll reporting, intercompany reconciliations, and year-end close support.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience required.
• Construction accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Sage 100 Contractor experience strongly preferred.
• Experience processing payroll required.
• Union construction payroll and reporting experience is a major plus.
• Knowledge of prevailing wage and certified payroll is a plus.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Experience working with external auditors is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the company's general ledger, books, records, and supporting schedules.
• Assist in preparing interim and year-end financial statements.
• Audit transactions for accuracy, proper coding, and correct posting.
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
• Review and reconcile intercompany transactions.
• Maintain accurate records of company assets and financial transactions.
• Assist with relationships and reporting requirements for banks and lending institutions.
• Support month-end and year-end closing procedures.
• Process payroll, including checks and direct deposits.
• Set up and maintain payroll calculations, deductions, and employee information.
• Create and maintain union codes, wage rates, and fringe benefit calculations.
• Prepare, verify, pay, and submit union reports.
• Calculate, pay, and submit federal and state payroll taxes.
