Job summary

ESPO Corporation, located on the Southside of Chicago, is seeking a Construction Staff Accountant / Bookkeeper to handle day-to-day accounting, payroll, and financial reporting. This hands-on role requires careful attention to detail and the ability to independently manage multiple accounting and administrative responsibilities in a construction setting.

Ideal candidates have Sage 100 Contractor or QuickBooks experience, payroll processing skills, and familiarity with union payroll, prevailing

Qualifications

• 3+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience required.
• Construction accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Experience processing payroll required.
• Union construction payroll and reporting experience is a major plus.
• Knowledge of prevailing wage and certified payroll is a plus.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Experience working with external auditors is preferred.
• Excellent computer and Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently.
• Ability to handle confidential financial and employee information.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the company's general ledger, books, records, and supporting schedules.
• Assist in preparing interim and year-end financial statements.
• Audit transactions for accuracy, proper coding, and correct posting.
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
• Review and reconcile intercompany transactions.
• Maintain accurate records of company assets and financial transactions.
• Assist with relationships and reporting requirements for banks and lending institutions.
• Support month-end and year-end closing procedures.
