Job summary

Turner Construction Company is seeking a Safety Intern to assist in activities related to safety and loss control on a Walnut Creek project or office location. You will support the safety team with program implementation, inspections, trainings, and records management.

The role targets an entry-level student enrolled in Occupational Safety & Health or related fields, with a basic understanding of safety principles and strong communication skills. Flexible hours and potential overtime apply.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a college/university degree program in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field with at least 1 year of completed education.
• Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles and techniques.
• Desire to work in construction management and to learn about the construction industry.
• Professional and clear verbal and written communication skills.
• Proactive, curious, and eager to learn and participate.
• Able to work independently with direction and supervision, and in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with implementing Building LIFE and project safety program under supervisor direction.
• Assist with identifying and reporting safety violations or unsafe practices.
• Assist with coordination of safety duties for safety committees, preplanning meetings, and toolbox talks.
• Assist with coordination of training at safety meetings, toolbox meetings, and orientations.
• Assist with reviewing subcontractor safety programs for compliance with policies.
• Assist with promoting safe work practices and compliance with regulations.
• Assist with administration of drug screening program aligned with requirements.
• Assist with preconstruction meetings and documenting meetings.
• Assist with site inspections and developing inspection summaries.
• Assist with maintaining safety records and incident metrics.
• Assist with worker orientation and recording participation.
• Other activities and duties as assigned under supervision.
