Job summary

Turner Construction Company in Houston seeks an Environmental Health and Safety Intern to assist with safety programs on construction projects and in office locations.

You will help with Building LIFE, identify hazards, coordinate safety meetings, review subcontractor programs, and maintain safety records under supervision. This internship offers hands-on exposure to safety practices in construction management.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a degree program in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field with at least 1 year completed.
• Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles and techniques.
• Desire to learn construction management and the construction industry.
• Flexible to work standard hours and overtime as required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team, with accountability.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing Building LIFE and the safety program on projects and offices.
• Identify and report safety violations or unsafe practices with emphasis on imminent danger.
• Coordinate safety duties for safety committees, preplans, and toolbox talks.
• Coordinate training at safety meetings and orientations.
• Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance with policies and regulations.
• Promote safe work practices and conditions per regulations and owner requirements.
• Assist with drug screening administration per requirements.
• Support preconstruction meetings and document meetings.
• Assist with site inspections and developing inspection summaries.
• Maintain safety records (pre-task plans, JHAs, training, OSHA logs, MSDS, incidents).
• Assist with orientation programs for new employees and record participation.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
