Job summary

Hensel Phelps in San Antonio, TX is seeking a Safety Engineer to support the safety manager on a construction project. The role involves recommending safety improvements, implementing policies, and assisting the team in planning and monitoring activities to prevent incidents.

The position is safety sensitive and requires collaboration with the project team to maintain a safe work environment, conduct audits, and support regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a safety or related field (preferred).
• 4‑year degree preferred; OSH degree suggested.
• Valid driver’s license required; strong communication skills; proficient with MS Office, Prolog, Primavera and AutoDesk.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with stakeholders including Hensel Phelps staff and trade partners.
• Follow company safety and health program and applicable standards (EM 385‑1‑1).
• Assist superintendent with accident prevention plan and safety management tools.
• Support six‑step quality control/safety process and activity hazard analyses.
• Conduct project safety audits and maintain project records.
• Assist with OSHA inspections as needed.
• Assist with accidents and near miss investigations and reporting.
• Monitor safety performance of Hensel Phelps and trade partners.
• Attend awareness and competent person level courses.
• Learn construction processes and roles/responsibilities.

Education

Bachelor's degree

4‑year degree preferred

Occupational Safety and Health degree suggested

Strong communication skills

Valid Driver’s License
