Job summary

Turner Construction Company in Shelton, CT seeks an Entry-level Environmental Health and Safety professional to support enforcement of safety policies and risk management on construction projects. You will assist with training, subcontractor safety reviews, and OSHA-compliant programs to foster safe work practices.

The role involves coordinating preconstruction activities, conducting worker orientations, maintaining safety records, and performing site safety audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in safety/engineering with 1 year construction safety experience.
• Basic knowledge of safety/environmental principles.
• Familiar with Federal, State and local EH&S regulations.
• Familiar with general construction operations.
• Ability to identify safety exposures and propose corrective actions.
• Strong leadership, teamwork and communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and data entry.

Responsibilities

• Assist with training safe work practices and EH&S programs for project staff.
• Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance with policies and regulations.
• Review subcontractor training per OSHA standards.
• Promote safe work practices and conditions per regulations and contracts.
• Administer drug screening program as required.
• Coordinate preconstruction meetings with supervisor.
• Conduct worker orientation and record participation.
• Gather Pre-Task Plans and Job Hazard Analyses for contractors.
• Maintain safety records (PTPs, JHAs, training, OSHA logs).
• Conduct safety meetings and issue minutes.
• Maintain log of subcontractor toolbox safety meetings and provide reports.
• Conduct site safety audits and inspections; recommend corrective actions.
• Identify and report safety violations with emphasis on imminent danger.
• Other duties as assigned.
