Job summary

Turner Construction Company is seeking an Entry-level Environmental Health and Safety professional for the Connecticut Main division in Shelton, CT. The role provides support in enforcing safety policies, conducting training, and assisting with risk management on construction projects.

You will help review subcontractor safety programs, promote safe practices, and assist with safety recordkeeping and incident investigations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or related field, plus 1 year of related construction safety experience.
• Basic knowledge of safety/environmental principles.
• Familiar with Federal, State, and local EH&S regulations.
• Familiar with general construction operations.
• Identify safety exposures and propose corrective actions.
• Demonstrate leadership, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to take direction and follow through.
• Exceptional organizational skills with high attention to detail.
• Analytical thinking, good judgment and problem-solving skills.
• Able to work in a non-structured environment and adapt priorities.
• Proficient with MS Office and collaboration tools.
• Limited travel may be required, access to reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Assist with training for safe work practices and safety programs on construction projects.
• Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance with regulations and owner requirements.
• Review subcontractor training per OSHA standards.
• Promote safe work practices and conditions per regulations and contractual requirements.
• Administer drug screening program per company and project requirements.
• Coordinate preconstruction meetings with supervisor.
• Conduct worker orientation and record participation.
• Gather Pre-Task Plans and Job Hazard Analyses as required.
• Maintain safety records (PTPs, JHAs, training records, etc.)
• Conduct safety meetings and document minutes.
• Maintain log of subcontractor toolbox talks and report to supervisor.
• Conduct project site safety audits and issue corrective action reports.
• Identify and report safety violations with emphasis on imminent danger.
• Other activities as assigned.
