Job summary

R/S Electric is seeking a Safety Coordinator to support the safety and health program across construction operations. You will work with project managers, foremen, and field crews to promote a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and reduce workplace hazards.

Responsibilities include safety audits, incident investigations, training delivery, maintaining records, and guiding hazard controls. Travel None.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Occupational Safety or related field preferred; equivalent safety experience considered.
  • 2–5 years of construction safety experience, preferably in utility/industrial projects.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926).

  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled safety audits of project sites and report findings.
  • Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and regulatory-required courses.
  • Assist with incident investigations, collect evidence, and participate in root-cause analysis.
  • Maintain training records and safety certifications; support hazard control measures.

Job Description

The Safety Coordinator supports the implementation and administration of the company’s safety and health management system across all construction operations. This position works closely with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and field employees to promote a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, reduce / eliminate workplace hazards, and support the company goal of achieving a zero-injury workplace. The Safety Coordinator conducts safety audits, coordinates employee training, assists with incident investigations, maintains safety records, and provides guidance on hazard identification and control measures.

** Essential Duties and Responsibilities**

** Safety Program Administration**

  • Assist with implementation and continuous improvement of the company Safety and Health Program.
  • Help maintain written safety policies, procedures, forms, and programs.
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA regulations, customer requirements, and company safety standards.
  • Assist with contractor and subcontractor safety compliance efforts.
  • Support site-specific safety program requirements and client safety initiatives.

** Jobsite Inspections and Audits**

  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled safety audits of project sites.
  • Complete audit reports and communicate findings to field leaders and project management.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and recommend corrective actions.
  • Follow up on corrective actions to ensure completion.

** Training and Employee Development**

  • Coordinate and conduct new hire safety orientations.
  • Deliver safety training programs, toolbox talks, refresher training, and regulatory-required training.
  • Assist supervisors and foremen with field-level safety coaching and mentoring.
  • Maintain employee training records and certifications.

** Hazard Identification and Risk Management**

  • Evaluate workplace hazards and recommend appropriate controls.
  • Support safe work planning before high-risk activities.
  • Assist with implementation of Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) prevention initiatives.
  • Provide guidance regarding fall protection, excavation safety, confined space entry, electrical safety, energized work, and other high-risk construction activities.

** Incident Investigation and Reporting**

  • Respond to workplace accidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage incidents.
  • Assist supervisors in collecting evidence, witness statements, and photographs.
  • Participate in root-cause investigations using established company processes.
  • Track corrective actions and lessons learned.
  • Assist with OSHA reporting requirements and workers' compensation documentation when necessary.

** Employee Engagement and Safety Culture**

  • Promote employee involvement in safety initiatives.
  • Encourage reporting of Good Catches, Near Misses, and safety concerns.
  • Participate in safety committee meetings and initiatives.
  • Provide positive coaching and constructive feedback to employees and supervisors.
  • Serve as a safety resource for field personnel and management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

** Education**

  • Associate degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent construction safety experience may be substituted for formal education.

** Experience**

  • Minimum 2-5 years of construction safety experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting utility, industrial, commercial, or heavy construction projects preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926).

** Certifications Preferred**

  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor or Provider
  • CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician)
  • Competent Person training in applicable construction disciplines
  • NFPA 70E training
