Job summary

Aston Carter seeks a Project Accountant for a contract-to-hire role based in Hammond, IN. You will support full-cycle cost management on large construction projects, manage subcontractor change orders, and ensure data integrity across Procore and related systems.

The position offers onsite work with a pay range of $38.46–$48.07 per hour, and a benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and more.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 1 year of project accounting or finance experience in construction.
• 3+ years in a project management, cost management, or accounting role within commercial construction.
• Strong understanding of construction accounting principles and change order lifecycle.
• Proficiency with Procore or Autodesk Construction Cloud.
• Experience with reconciliation and data entry in high-volume environments.
• Ability to interpret contractual terms related to change orders, claims, and entitlements.

Responsibilities

• Support full-cycle cost management for large construction projects.
• Manage subcontractor change management process with timely responses and complete documentation.
• Process change orders with data integrity and timeliness.
• Audit and reconcile project financial data for accuracy and compliance.
• Prepare and present monthly cost reports and risk assessments for stakeholders.
• Participate in monthly meetings providing data-driven insights on cost performance.
• Review contractual terms to advise on entitlements related to change orders and claims.
• Coordinate with client finance teams to ensure reporting compliance.
• Analyze local labor markets, commodity prices, and tax impacts for cost strategy.
• Resolve invoice and change order discrepancies with subcontractors and teams.
• Maintain records of all project accounting transactions.
• Collaborate with Project Cost Manager on transactional elements and forecasting.
• Perform data entry and reconciliation in Procore/Smartsheets.
