Job description

Contracts Manager – Data Center Construction

South Bend / Michigan City, IN | Full-Time | On-Site

General Contractor | Major Mission-Critical Development

We are working with a General Contractor delivering a major data center development in the South Bend / Michigan City area of Indiana.

The project involves the redevelopment of a large industrial facility into a modern, high-capacity data center campus.

We are looking for an experienced Contracts Manager who can take ownership of construction contract administration, strengthen commercial processes and ensure contractual obligations are effectively managed throughout the project lifecycle.

This opportunity would suit someone who has worked on large, complex construction projects and is comfortable establishing procedures, identifying contractual risks and working closely with project leadership, field engineering and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the preparation, review, negotiation and administration of construction contracts and subcontract agreements.
  • Establish and maintain clear contract management procedures, documentation and reporting processes.
  • Work closely with Field Engineers, Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure contracts accurately reflect technical requirements, project scope and site conditions.
  • Identify and manage contractual risks, scope gaps, commercial exposure and potential disputes.
  • Oversee contract variations, change orders, claims and contractual correspondence.
  • Monitor subcontractor compliance with contractual obligations, deliverables and project milestones.
  • Support procurement and subcontractor engagement, ensuring appropriate contractual terms and conditions are established.
  • Maintain accurate contract records, tracking systems and audit trails.
  • Provide contractual guidance to project leadership and support commercial decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to improve existing processes and implement more consistent contract management practices.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in contracts management within construction, engineering or major capital projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, subcontract administration, change management and commercial risk.
  • Experience working on complex industrial, energy, infrastructure or mission-critical developments.
  • Understanding of how field engineering, construction operations and contract administration work together.
  • Experience developing or improving contract management processes and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret technical project documentation, specifications and contractual requirements.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Comfortable working directly with senior project leadership, engineering teams and subcontractors.
  • Experience with data center construction would be highly advantageous, although candidates from other complex industrial construction environments will also be considered.
The Ideal Candidate

We are particularly interested in individuals who bring more than traditional contract administration experience.

The successful candidate will be proactive, commercially aware and confident working within a fast-moving construction environment.

They will understand that effective contracts management relies on close collaboration with the teams delivering the work on site, while maintaining clear contractual responsibilities and appropriate commercial controls.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys building structure, improving processes and taking ownership, rather than simply maintaining existing systems.
