Salary Range: $36.06-$40.87
The Construction Project Accountant is a member of the Design & Construction team, primarily responsible for accounting related to construction projects. The role reports to the Senior Director of Design and Construction at the corporate office in San Francisco, CA.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Review AIA contracts and identify contractual terms for audit payment application purposes.
- Review and audit GMP invoices, ensuring documentation supports transactions, obtaining approvals, and sending reminders for urgent or late payments.
- Review and reclassify project-related charges and journal entries.
- Reconcile vendor statements with PMs for outstanding invoices, communicating with vendors and team members about invoice and check statuses.
- Ensure timely payments to General Contractors and collect lien waivers.
- Reconcile Construction-in-Progress (CIP) and Capital renovation accounts monthly.
- Coordinate with Project Managers and Project Cost Control Specialists to verify % complete and correct billings.
- Reconcile Construction Cost Reports and vendor account statuses against project reports and billings.
- Conduct final audits for payments to Contractors, Vendors, and Consultants.
- Review and approve preconditions for progress and final payments.
- Review contractual and purchase agreements for payment requirements.
- Manage payment application and approval processes, ensuring timeliness and compliance.
- Analyze project cost commitments and risk exposures.
- Track capital proposals, changes, and proposed costs.
- Account for all open projects, change orders, and costs, communicating with Accounting as needed.
- Process monthly general contractor payments.
- Assist with loan draw documentation and respond to lender inquiries.
- Review team expense reports, process invoices and payments, and reconcile with the general ledger.
- Mail checks when necessary.
- Review insurance certifications and lien releases.
- Maintain cost commitment systems and understand all aspects of project costs.
- Participate in ad hoc projects as required.
WHAT WE NEED:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business or Accounting.
- Detail-oriented and organized.
- Proactive communication and problem-solving skills.
- Strong experience with Excel and Word.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- 5+ years of accounting or construction accounting experience.
- Understanding of construction processes, legal issues, and project costs.
- Experience with Great Plains, Procore, Box, Textura, FRX, Microsoft Dynamics 365 preferred.
