Job summary

StaffFinancialGroup is seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join our construction project teams and provide accounting support and timely, accurate project financial information.

This position is responsible for construction project accounting functions, including reviewing invoices and budgets, preparing financial reports, creating monthly pay applications, monitoring project costs, and ensuring costs are accurately reflected within project budgets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent.
• Minimum of five years of accounting experience.
• At least two years of construction industry experience.
• Strong knowledge of project cost accounting.
• Knowledge of construction pay applications.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Experience with Sage Intacct and Procore/Procore Pay preferred.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to turn financial data into useful information.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong customer-service skills when supporting field personnel and management.
• Ability to meet deadlines and perform effectively under pressure.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage accounting functions for assigned construction projects.
• Review, enter, and approve supplier invoices related to assigned projects.
• Review and approve overhead charges applied to projects.
• Review account balances related to project assets and expenses.
• Investigate project variances and prepare variance reports for management.
• Create and/or approve project-related customer billings and monthly pay applications.
• Work with Operations regarding unpaid contract billings.
• Partner with management to identify opportunities for additional billings.
• Respond to customer requests for supporting financial information and documentation.
• Close project accounts upon project completion.
• Compile project information and supporting documentation for internal and external auditors.
• Assess existing accounting processes and controls and recommend improvements when appropriate.
• Complete additional assignments as directed by management.
