Job summary

Staff Financial Group is seeking an experienced Project Accountant to support our construction project teams with accurate financial information. The role involves reviewing invoices and budgets, preparing monthly pay applications, monitoring costs, and ensuring costs are properly reflected in project budgets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent.
• Minimum of five years of accounting experience.
• At least two years of accounting experience within the construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of project cost accounting.
• Knowledge of construction pay applications.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Experience with Sage Intacct and Procore/Procore Pay preferred.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage accounting functions for assigned construction projects.
• Maintain project-related financial records and change orders; identify deficiencies.
• Review, enter, and approve supplier invoices for assigned projects.
• Review and approve overhead charges applied to projects.
• Review account balances related to project assets and expenses.
• Investigate project variances and prepare variance reports for management.
• Create and/or approve project-related customer billings and monthly pay applications.
• Work with Operations regarding unpaid contract billings.
• Identify opportunities to increase billings with management.
• Respond to customer requests for supporting financial information and documentation.
• Close project accounts upon project completion.
• Compile project information and documentation for auditors.
• Assess existing accounting processes and controls and recommend improvements.
• Complete additional assignments as directed by management.
