Job summary

Centurion Selection is seeking an experienced Project Accountant to support financial management across multiple construction projects in Boca Raton, FL. You will ensure accurate financial reporting, billing, cost tracking and compliance through hands‑on project accounting activities.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in construction/project/job costing, strong Excel skills, and familiarity with construction accounting software such as Procore, Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, CMiC or Yardi.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in construction/project/job-cost accounting.
• Experience with subcontractor billing, owner billing, retainage and change orders.
• Strong Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, reporting).
• Familiarity with WIP and percentage‑of‑completion accounting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day accounting activities for assigned construction projects.
• Maintain budgets, commitments, contracts and cost-to-complete information.
• Process and review invoices, ensuring correct coding.
• Prepare owner billings, progress applications and payment requisitions.
• Track AP/AR, retainage, commitments and change orders.
• Reconcile costs to budget and flag variances.
• Support monthly project financial reporting and forecasting.
• Prepare WIP reports and assist with percentage‑of‑completion accounting.
• Monitor cash flow and outstanding receivables.
• Review subcontractor payment apps and supporting docs.
• Record month‑end/year-end close activities and accruals.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and audits support.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Project Accountant to support the financial management and accounting activities across multiple construction projects. The Project Accountant will work closely with project delivery to ensure accurate financial reporting, billing, cost tracking, and compliance.

This is a hands‑on role suited to someone with experience in construction accounting, project accounting, or job cost accounting who understands how project costs flow through a construction business.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting activities for assigned construction projects.
• Maintain accurate project budgets, commitments, contracts, and cost-to-complete information.
• Process and review subcontractor and vendor invoices, ensuring costs are coded correctly to the appropriate project and cost codes.
• Prepare and process owner billings, progress applications, and payment requisitions.
• Track accounts payable, accounts receivable, retainage, commitments, and change orders.
• Reconcile project costs against the approved budget and identify discrepancies or unusual variances.
• Assist Project Managers and Project Executives with monthly project financial reporting and forecasting.
• Prepare monthly WIP (Work in Progress) reports and assist with percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Monitor project cash flow and outstanding receivables.
• Review subcontractor payment applications and supporting documentation.
• Track change orders and ensure approved changes are reflected accurately in project financials.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end close, including accruals, reconciliations, and journal entries.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and accounting records.
• Support project audits and provide financial information as required.
• Work closely with operations to ensure project costs and commitments are recorded accurately and on a timely basis.
• Identify potential financial issues within projects and communicate them to project leadership and accounting management.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in construction accounting, project accounting, job cost accounting, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of construction project financials and job costing.
• Experience with subcontractor billing, owner billing, retainage, change orders, and commitments.
• Understanding of WIP and percentage‑of‑completion accounting preferred.
• Strong Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and financial reporting.
• Experience with construction accounting software such as Procore, Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, CMiC, Yardi, or similar is preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both accounting and project teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred but not required.
• Candidates with experience working for a General Contractor is a plus.
