Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required with construction-related certification preferred.
• 3+ years in construction materials testing, inspection, or related field.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and ability to travel locally.
• Able to lift 60 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Experience with field and lab testing per ASTM/AASHTO requirements.
• Willingness to work weekends and occasional night shifts.

Responsibilities

• Perform field and lab testing of concrete, soils, and asphalt per project specs.
• Collect, label and transport material samples for analysis.
• Operate and maintain field/lab testing equipment (slump cones, air meters, nuclear gauges).
• Prepare accurate field docs: reports, data sheets, photos, logs.
• Communicate results clearly with project managers and crews.
• Adhere to WSP safety policies and PPE requirements on site.
• Support project teams with additional field tasks as needed.

At WSP, we are driven by a passion for shaping the communities we serve. Our team supports infrastructure and development projects by providing high-quality materials testing and inspection services. We are seeking an experienced Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technician II to join our growing team and support field operations in Laporte or Granger, Indiana. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of field testing procedures, and the ability to perform testing and inspection activities independently while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and client service.

Please note: This position is contingent upon WSP being awarded the associated project contract and receiving all required client approvals. Employment for this position, including any offer and start date, is subject to successful project award and project initiation.

Your Impact

• Performing field and lab testing of concrete, soils, and asphalt in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and project requirements
• Collecting, labeling, and transporting construction material samples for laboratory analysis
• Operating and maintaining field and lab testing equipment, including slump cones, air meters, nuclear density gauges.
• Preparing accurate field documentation such as reports, data sheets, photographs, and sample logs.
• Communicating test results and observations clearly with project managers, contractors, and supervisors.
• Following WSP safety policies, maintaining PPE, and working safely in active construction environments.
• Supporting project teams with additional field assignments as needed.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• 3+ years of experience in construction materials testing, inspection, or a related field
• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I
• ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Ability to lift 60 pounds routinely (equipment, tools, samples)
• Ability to walk on uneven ground and stand for extended periods
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work weekends and occasional night shifts
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS CWI
• NICET Level I in Soils, Asphalt, or Construction Materials Testing
• KYTC, ICC, or other state-specific technician certifications
• Nuclear gauge safety training
• OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR, or comparable safety training
• Coursework or a degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Construction Management, or related fields
