Job summary

WSP in Indiana is seeking an experienced Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technician II to support field operations in Laporte or Granger. The role requires strong knowledge of field testing procedures and the ability to work independently while maintaining safety, quality, and client service.

You will perform concrete, soils, and asphalt testing per ASTM/AASHTO, collect samples, operate testing equipment, and document results for project managers and contractors.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in construction materials testing, inspection, or a related field.
• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I
• ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician
• Ability to lift 60 pounds routinely
• Valid driver's license

Responsibilities

• Perform field and lab testing of concrete, soils, and asphalt in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and project requirements.
• Collect samples and transport them for laboratory analysis.
• Operate and maintain field and lab testing equipment such as slump cones, air meters, and nuclear density gauges.
• Prepare accurate field documentation including reports, data sheets, photographs, and logs.
• Communicate test results and observations with project managers, contractors, and supervisors.

We are seeking an experienced Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technician II to join our growing team and support field operations in Laporte or Granger, Indiana. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of field testing procedures, and the ability to perform testing and inspection activities independently while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and client service.
Please note: This position is contingent upon WSP being awarded the associated project contract and receiving all required client approvals. Employment for this position, including any offer and start date, is subject to successful project award and project initiation.

Your Impact

• Performing field and lab testing of concrete, soils, and asphalt in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and project requirements
• Collecting, labeling, and transporting construction material samples for laboratory analysis
• Operating and maintaining field and lab testing equipment, including slump cones, air meters, nuclear density gauges.
• Preparing accurate field documentation such as reports, data sheets, photographs, and sample logs.
• Communicating test results and observations clearly with project managers, contractors, and supervisors.
• Following WSP safety policies, maintaining PPE, and working safely in active construction environments.
• Supporting project teams with additional field assignments as needed.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• 3+ years of experience in construction materials testing, inspection, or a related field
• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I
• ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Ability to lift 60 pounds routinely (equipment, tools, samples)
• Ability to walk on uneven ground and stand for extended periods
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work weekends and occasional night shifts
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS CWI
• NICET Level I in Soils, Asphalt, or Construction Materials Testing
• KYTC, ICC, or other state-specific technician certificationsNuclear gauge safety training
• OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR, or comparable safety training
• Coursework or a degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Construction Management, or related fields
