Job summary

Turner Construction Company in Shelton, CT invites a student intern to support day-to-day construction management activities, document control, and coordination with subcontractors. The role emphasizes learning safety protocols, project lifecycle, and cost awareness while contributing to reports and site visits.

You will assist with start-up activities, RFIs, submittals, take-offs, and learning how to prepare estimates and procurement tasks.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a college/university program or Co-op, 1 year completed
• “18 years of age to work on site”
• Interest in construction management and learning about the industry
• Commitment to standard business hours and potential overtime
• Strong verbal and written communication in English
• Ability to read and comprehend written information
• Accountability and proactive learning mindset
• Able to work independently and in a team

Responsibilities

• Support project team with meeting coordination, material tracking, file management, document control, and progress reporting.
• Follow project site signage and supervisor instructions.
• Provide progress reports and learn about construction management.
• Relate academic knowledge to work activities on site.
• Maintain professional relationships with employees, customers, clients, and subcontractors.
• Participate in training, meetings, and orientation.
• Comply with safety protocols and wear PPE.
• Assist with project start-up activities and support Project Engineer/ Superintendent/ Manager.
• Assist with RFIs, submittals, estimates for changes in work.
• Attend project site visits to observe field activities.
• Prepare and distribute information for contract requirements.
• Communicate with Architects, Engineers, vendors, and subcontractors.
• Monitor subcontractor compliance with Turner’s safety program.
• Assist with quantity take-offs using traditional or computer-aided methods.
• Request and distribute subcontractor proposals and assemble delivery system proposals.
• Assist with project closeout preparations.
• Salary range for this position is $22-$26 per hour.
