Job description

Travel Requirement: 100%

Under moderate supervision, build, repair, and maintain HFC (hybrid fiber coax) and FTTH (Fiber to the Home) plant. Work on a crew to construct outside plant Aerial/UG network infrastructure.

Actively support efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.

Perform complex installations of cable in underground and overhead environments, following company specifications and industry standards.

Prepare underground system plant for repairs, including trenching, pot holing, backfill, and conduit, pole, riser, or pedestal replacement.

Investigate and repair cut fiber optic cables or impairments.

Dig trenches, fill ditches, bury cables, and place cables through trenches and conduits.

Install equipment for HFC & FTTH, ground plant, or run ground wires for future installations.

Collaborate with other technicians and contractors in performing duties.

Perform traffic control and flagging as needed.

Load and unload equipment and tools.

Read system prints and install cables accordingly.

Calculate signal losses using signal level meters.

Follow industry-specific regulations and company policies.

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

• Proficiency with hand tools, drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers
• Ability to work on all terrains and weather conditions, carrying tools and equipment
• Safe use of weight-bearing equipment and climbing gear

• Measuring distances accurately
• Climbing poles and working at heights
• Differentiating wire sizes, types, and colors
• Making cable connections in tight spaces
• Operating test equipment like signal level meters
• Working from high places like poles and roofs
• Standing for extended periods
• Handling small components and wires

• Adherence to regulations and policies
• Ability to dig in various soils and operate machinery
• Reading system layouts from blueprints
• Working independently and in teams
• Knowledge of fiber architectures and maintenance, fusion splicing

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record
• Certifications like NCTI, SCTE, BCT/E preferred
• 2+ years construction experience preferred

Preferred Skills and Certifications

• Utility/Electrical/Telecom experience
• Commercial Driver License - Class A
• OSHA 10, Electrical Training, NESC Communications 1910.268
• 1+ years of utility/electrical/telecom experience

Working Conditions

• Indoor confined spaces and outdoor environments in all weather
• Exposure to dust, noise, insects, rodents, pets, chemicals
• Work at heights, near power lines, and traveling as needed
