Travel Requirement: 100%

Under moderate supervision, build, repair, and maintain HFC (hybrid fiber coax) plant and FTTH (Fiber to the Home) plant. Work on a crew to construct outside plant Aerial/UG network infrastructure.

Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.

Perform complex installations of cable in underground and/or overhead environments using the most recent company specifications and industry standards.

Prepare underground system plant for repairs, including trenching, pot holing, backfill, and repair or replacement of conduits, poles, risers, or pedestals.

Investigate and repair cut fiber optic cables or impairments.

Dig trenches, fill ditches, bury cables, and place cables in trenches and through conduits.

Install equipment used to house HFC & FTTH equipment, ground plant, or place rods or wires to serve as ground for future installations.

Collaborate with other Construction Technicians, in-house Technicians, and third-party contractors.

Perform traffic control and flagging as necessary.

Load and unload cable equipment and tools.

Read system prints and place cable according to prints.

Calculate signal losses using signal level meters.

Adhere to industry-specific local, state, and federal regulations.

Follow company policies and perform other duties as requested by supervisor.

Required Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge

• Ability to read, write, and speak English
• Proficiency with hand tools, electric drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers
• Ability to walk over all terrains in various weather conditions while carrying tools and equipment
• Use of personal computer and software applications
• Accurate measurement skills
• Ability to climb poles and ladders, and operate climbing gear safely
• Knowledge of wire types, sizes, and colors
• Ability to perform job tasks at heights and in confined spaces
• Knowledge of fiber architectures, fusion splicing, and basic electronics
• Understanding of safety codes and regulations

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license with satisfactory record
• 2+ years construction experience preferred

Preferred Skills and Certifications

• Utility/Electrical/Telecom experience
• Commercial Driver License - Class A
• OSHA 10, Electrical Training, NESC Communications 1910.268

Working Conditions

Work indoors in confined, poorly ventilated areas and outdoors in all weather conditions, including at heights and near power lines. Travel may be required weekly, including in inclement weather.
