Responsibilities

Inspect and report on construction projects to ensure plan compliance.
Advise Resident Engineer and inform contractors of variances.
Take material samples, prepare test specimens, and refer to labs.
Check public utilities locations to avoid interference.
Review traffic control plans and project safety.
Inspect earthwork, asphalt placement, concrete delivery, and curing.
Maintain project submittals, RFIs, and CCOs with PM.
Verify certificates of compliance, shop drawings, and test reports.
Maintain daily diary, photo log, and quantities.

Job description

Inspect and report on a variety of construction projects
Advise the Resident Engineer or Agency Project Manager and inform contractors of variances from approved plans and specifications
Take material samples, prepare test specimens, assist with field tests, or refer samples for laboratory analysis
Check public utility locations to avoid interference with construction work
Check roadway, slope, and structure grades, flow lines, and structure locations
Review contractor traffic control plans and field traffic control; review project safety
Inspect earthwork grading, asphalt concrete placement, proportions, and mix controls
Inspect concrete delivery, placement, and curing, as well as reinforcing steel placement
Assist the Project Manager with project submittals, RFIs, and CCOs
Verify material acceptability through Certificates of Compliance, shop drawings, and test reports
Maintain material and inspection records
Maintain a daily diary, photo log, and contract item quantities
Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

College degree or minimum 5 years’ work experience with Transportation or Civil related projects
4+ years of experience in the supervision or inspection of engineering construction work
Experience reading and interpreting complex construction plans and specifications
Valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driver’s record are required
Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII) certification desired
ICC Reinforced Concrete Inspection Certification desired
ICC Masonry Inspection Certification desired
ICC Welding Inspection Certification desired
ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade 1 Certification desired
Qualified SWPPP Certification desired
