The City of Virginia Beach is looking to hire a Construction Inspector within the Public Utilities Department. As a Construction Inspector, you will review engineering plans/specifications, perform inspection duties, and conduct quality assurance tests related to the construction, rehabilitation, and repair of water and sanitary sewer facilities. The goal is to ensure compliance with City and State standards and proper construction methods and materials.

The position may be classified as a Construction Inspector I or II, depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

• Construction Inspector I - G18, $39,328.30 - $60,958.87
• Construction Inspector II - G22, $47,803.80 - $74,095.89

Duties include:

• Perform on-site inspections of utility system constructions, including sewer and water facilities.
• Inspect erosion control, sediment management, and stormwater measures.
• Conduct quality assurance tests, verify material quantities, process invoices, maintain electronic records, and prepare reports.
• Identify construction issues and recommend solutions.
• Prepare change orders and notifications.
• Coordinate activities among multiple agencies and communicate with contractors, city, and state officials, and the public.
• Perform inspections that may require physical effort and working in various weather conditions.
