This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Construction Inspector in the Virginia Beach, VA area.

Your Impact

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Inspect and review work to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, drawings, and specifications.
2. Interpret roadway, bridge plans, building plans, and contracts.
3. Monitor and report on field quality control and conduct routine tests on construction materials.
4. Keep detailed records of contractor performance and progress.
5. Measure and record materials for contractor payments.
6. Conduct receiving inspections for delivered materials.
7. Create and maintain daily inspection reports and project logs.
8. Utilize construction management software such as AASHTO’s Field Manager, ProCore, or Primavera.
9. Recognize construction problems and apply standard solutions.
10. Recommend field changes to drawings and specifications.
11. Work as a team member without close supervision.
12. Maintain communication with clients and contractors.
13. Attend construction meetings as needed.
14. Work in various weather conditions, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 5 years of experience in inspection or highway/building construction.
• Full VDOT Certification and related qualifications.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Proficient in math, English, and field inspection equipment.
• Able to read and interpret plans and specifications.
• Adherence to safety and ethical standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with VDOT or local agencies.
• Construction management certifications.
• Additional certifications like ICC, NICET, NACE, etc.
