Job summary

Hitachi Energy USA Inc. in South Boston, VA is seeking a Construction HSE Specialist to protect people, projects, and the environment across our construction operations.

You will drive a safety-first culture, partnering with project managers, site supervisors, contractors, and field teams to embed risk reduction and regulatory compliance in every phase of work. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, 3+ years of HSE experience in construction, OSHA 30-Hour Construction,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive HSE experience within construction, infrastructure, industrial, or energy projects.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, ANSI, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analyses, and developing corrective action plans.
  • CSP, CIH, or other relevant professional safety certifications are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve construction HSE programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses while implementing effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Deliver engaging HSE training for employees and contractors on safety, emergency response, PPE, and environmental protection.
  • Maintain accurate HSE documentation, permits, reports, training records, and incident logs.
  • Collaborate with project teams to integrate HSE requirements into all phases of construction activities.
  • Monitor environmental performance and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and permit conditions.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, communication, recognition programs, and emergency preparedness initiatives.
