Position Summary

The Construction Estimator is responsible for assembling proposals, attending pre-bid meetings, coordinating subcontract bids, and facilitating review of the proposals by TEiC management. This is a key position in our growing Industrial Construction business, contributing to the entire Pre-Construction process and change management on active projects.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare clear and detailed cost estimates by analyzing plans, specifications, and performing quantity take-offs for trades such as structural steel erection, ductwork, heavy equipment, piping, and industrial welding.
  2. Estimate civil trades including excavation, site prep, utilities, foundations, and concrete work.
  3. Estimate electrical, control, and instrumentation systems within industrial facilities.
  4. Develop and prepare conceptual estimates with minimal preliminary info.
  5. Maintain unit pricing databases for materials and labor.
  6. Develop subcontract scopes, manage RFP processes, and evaluate proposals.
  7. Itemize scopes and prepare bid packages.
  8. Collaborate with pre-construction team on proposal schedules.
  9. Engage with clients, engineers, and subcontractors to align project objectives, schedules, permits, and costs.
  10. Lead project turnover with the construction team, providing necessary documentation.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and understand construction documents including drawings, specs, schematics, and foundation plans.
  • Knowledge of commercial terms, legal standards, and industry practices.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capacity to handle high work volume with attention to detail and quality.

Education and Experience:

  • B.S. in Engineering or Construction Management.
  • 8-10 years of estimating experience, with multi-disciplinary expertise and willingness to learn new areas.
  • Experience estimating projects over $25M.
  • Experience in heavy industrial settings; project engineering or management experience is a plus.
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel, MS Project; Primavera and InEight are highly valued.
