Job summary

Brown & Root Industrial Services seeks skilled laborers to prepare sites for daily work and perform housekeeping and concrete-related duties. You will operate jackhammers, pour and finish concrete, and manage materials per project plans.

Qualifications

• May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
• Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
• Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
• Works under immediate supervision.
• Ability to work in inclement weather conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.
• Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.

Responsibilities

• Operate jackhammers and drills to break up concrete or pavement.
• Position, join, align and seal structural components such as concrete walls and pipes.
• Shovel cement and other materials into portable cement mixers and mix, pour and spread concrete.
• Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement and adjustment of machinery.
• Finish freshly poured concrete using floats, trowels, screeds or finishing tools.
• Tend to machines that pump concrete, grout, and sand.
• Tend to pumps, compressors and generators to provide power for tools and equipment.
• Lubricate, clean and repair machinery and tools.
• Read and maintain air monitoring and sampling devices in confined/hazardous environments.
• Assist build/position forms for pouring concrete and dismantle forms after use.
• Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate hazards and follow waste guidelines.
• Control traffic near work zones.
• Dig trenches/backfill and compact earth to grade specs.
• Erect/dismantle scaffolding, shoring, barricades and ramps.
• Load/unload and distribute building materials per project plans.
• Watch for welding or metal cutting performed by craftspeople.
• Read/interpret plans and specifications to determine activities.
• Expedite materials/equipment to work locations and set up sites.
• Complete records, maintain tools/equipment, perform janitorial tasks.
• Observe and comply with safety/project rules and wear PPE.
