Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Transportation seeks an Engineering Technician (Construction). The role offers rotations across engineering tasks, with drafting duties and hands-on field work to support bridge projects.

You'll learn department procedures, work hours 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and may telework ad-hoc after probation. A valid Class C driver's license and PA residency are required.

Qualifications

• This position requires an associate degree in surveying, drafting, designing, civil, or engineering technology.
• Applicants may be within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
• Possession of a valid Class C Driver's License is required.
• You must meet Pennsylvania residency requirements and perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Participate in scheduled work rotations to gain familiarity with district personnel and projects.
• Assist units with basic engineering tasks while learning agency policies and workflows.
• Prepare bridge and structural drawings using design tools with guidance.
• Produce drafting and detailing for final bridge plans from sketches and surveys.
• Join field inspections of bridges and record notes and sketches under staff direction.
• Apply algebra, geometry, and trigonometry to compute quantities and support drafting.
