Job summary

Jobtailor in Peoria Heights, IL seeks an experienced civil/municipal project manager to represent IDOT and clients in the delivery of wastewater, water, and transportation projects. You will observe field work, recommend design improvements, and lead project teams to successful outcomes.

The role requires strong communication, detailed reporting, and the ability to coordinate with contractors and residents. Travel across Baxter & Woodman’s service area will be necessary.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Civil/Construction Engineering from an accredited program.
• 10+ years’ experience in IDOT construction or municipal work.
• Strong written, verbal, computer, and organizational skills.
• Ability to travel throughout Baxter & Woodman’s service area with own transportation.
• PE License preferred.

Job description

• Represent IDOT and municipal clients in managing and observing wastewater, water, transportation, and infrastructure construction, start-up, and operation
• Conduct on-site observation of work, repairs, and testing
• Recommend alterations to development and design to improve project quality
• Manage and mentor assigned staff on project skills and job expectations
• Prepare project scope, fees, and Work Order documents to IDOT
• Manage multiple small and large projects
• Monitor progress schedules and shop drawings
• Provide general civil engineering and municipal client service
• Communicate with residents, businesses, and public agency representatives
• Resolve construction conflicts and prepare cost-effective solutions
• Protect the owner against defects and deficiencies in the work
• Serve as liaison with the contractor, principally through the contractor’s superintendent
• Maintain daily reports, job meeting minutes, approved shop drawing submittals, and pay request records
• Maintain records of time, equipment, and material needs for potential change orders
• Review and request adjustments to compensation and contract time
• Prepare payment estimates
• Address resident complaints and concerns
• Coordinate with the contractor and perform other assigned duties
• Mentor less experienced engineers and interns

Requirements

• B.S. degree in Civil/Construction Engineering from an accredited program
• 10+ years’ experience in IDOT construction or municipal work
• Sufficient computer and smartphone skills for file access, use, and effective operation and communication
• Ability to travel throughout Baxter & Woodman’s service area with own transportation
• Ability to independently handle a variety of ongoing tasks and responsibilities
• Strong written, verbal, computer, and organizational skills
• Ability to work within a team-first culture that encourages individual development and accomplishment of goals
• PE License preferred
