Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is hiring an EHS Professional to provide environmental, health, and safety leadership for construction, renovation, and capital projects across SEL facilities. You will partner with project managers, facilities teams, and contractors to ensure safe, compliant project execution.

The role covers field inspections, contractor safety program reviews, risk assessments, and safety training to embed SEL safety expectations throughout all project phases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, or similar credentials.
• Experience supporting construction, facility expansion, renovation, or capital improvement projects.
• Knowledge of OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926) and related safety regulations.
• Experience evaluating contractor safety programs and managing contractor EHS performance.
• Strong hazard recognition and risk assessment skills in construction environments.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and safety data communication.
• Excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to influence and collaborate with project teams and leaders.

Responsibilities

• Provide EHS guidance during project planning, design reviews, contractor selection, and field execution.
• Conduct site inspections to verify compliance with safety requirements and regulations.
• Review contractor safety programs and JHAs to identify and mitigate risks.
• Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders to address safety concerns and implement fixes.
• Monitor high-risk activities and participate in incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
• Provide field coaching to contractors and project teams on safe work practices.
• Track EHS metrics, contractor performance, and corrective actions for improvement.
• Support environmental compliance, waste management, and permitting for construction projects.
• Develop and deliver construction safety training and contractor orientation.
