Job summary

The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company is seeking an intern to gain hands-on experience in construction environmental health and safety. You will work with project teams on EH&S programs across office and job-site environments, with travel as needed.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a degree in EH&S management or related fields. The internship lasts 10–12 weeks, typically 40 hours per week, with housing possible in some cases.

Qualifications

• Open to undergraduate and graduate students interested in gaining hands-on practical experience in the construction EH&S field.
• Preferred candidates should be pursuing a degree in environmental health and safety management or a closely related field of study.
• Assignments include office and job site; relocation to a remote site may be required.
• Transportation is required.
• Work periods are 10-12 weeks; 40 hours/week.
• Housing may be provided in certain situations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in safety onboarding and safety meeting processes.
• Assist in performing regular job site inspections to identify, document and mitigate hazardous conditions and verify corrective actions.
• Assist in evaluating planning/permits such as Hot Work, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Excavation, Steel Erection, Energized Work, etc.
• Assist in incident investigations including interviews, data compilation, photographs and proper documentation.
