Job summary

Miami University is seeking a Conference & Event Services Student Manager for the summer term. The role supports visiting campus guests for summer camps and conferences, reporting to the Assistant Director for Conferences.

Senior staff may mentor on specific areas to develop expertise. The position requires enrollment at Miami University or another university for the coming semester, a valid driver’s license, and background check clearance.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled at a university for the coming semester.
  • Driver’s license required and pre-employment motor vehicle use agreement signed.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.
  • Availability for employment May 15th – August 9th 2026.
  • Pre-summer office work availability may be evaluated.
  • Limited training meetings in late April, early May.
  • Prior customer service or conference experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, professionalism, dependability, and communication skills.
  • 30–40 hours per week; shifts 6–8 hours.
  • Hours include mornings, afternoons, evenings, overnights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Customer Experience Management – provide impeccable service to hotel guests, groups and attendees; ensure safety and respond to issues.
  • Conference Management – assist with administrative prep for check-in; coordinate with dining, housing, facilities, and police.
  • Business Management – gain proficiency with Iris Coordinator, CS Gold and Google for daily operations.
  • Project Management – complete assigned projects thoroughly and efficiently.
  • Employee Management – coordinate activities of conference service assistants.

Job Description Summary

Customer service and conference management position hired tosupport visiting campus guests of summer camps andconferences.

The Conference Services Student Managers report to the AssistantDirector for Conferences. Senior Staff will be familiar with alltasks but one particular area may be assigned to further develop anexpertise and proficiency.

Essential Duties
  • 1. Customer Experience Management - Providing impeccablecustomer service to the various hotel guests, summer conferencegroups and camp attendees. Ensuring a secure and safe environmentfor guests. Proactively managing guest experience while they are oncampus as well as reacting to issues that arise requiringsolutions.
  • 2. Conference Management - Assist with the administrativeresponsibilities in preparation for check in of our groups.Coordinate services with various campus partners including dining,housing, physical facilities and university police.
  • 3. Business Management - Gaining proficiency with computersystems, including Iris Coordinator, CS Gold and Google for dailymanagement of work.
  • 4. Project Management - Complete assigned projects thoroughly,accurately and with efficiency .
  • 5. Employee Management - Coordinate the activities ofconference service assistants in providing service to variousconference guests.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be enrolled either at Miami University or anotherUniversity for the coming semester.
  • Driver’s License required. Pre-employment Motor Vehicle UseAgreement signed and Hire Right driver approval.
  • Must successfully pass a background check. Selected studentswill have to pass a fingerprinted state of Ohio background checkbefore hire.
  • Availability for employment May 15th - August 9th 2026
  • Will evaluate individual applicant availability for pre-summeroffice work to prepare for summer business.
  • Limited training meetings during late April, early May
  • Prior customer service or conference experience ispreferred.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, professionalism,dependability, and excellent communication skills. Provendecision-making abilities and self-direction.
  • 30-40 hours per week; shifts will vary in length from 6-8hours
  • Hours to include mornings, afternoons, evenings, over nightsand weekends.
