Job summary

Norfolk Southern Corporation in North Carolina is seeking a Train Conductor. You will start on the extra board, work on-call 24/7, and build seniority for regular assignments. Training spans ~20 weeks with support and travel reimbursement.

You will join a union within 60 days after training and advance to conductor roles. Conductor Trainees earn per-shift wages during training with overtime and strong vacation benefits.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
• Ability to report to work within 90 minutes.
• Clean driving record in past 36 months, without relevant suspensions.
• Must not have prior drug or alcohol driving violations.
• Must pass FRA drug and alcohol screening.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Build and inspect trains, railcars, and equipment for safe operation.
• Operate remote control locomotives and perform coupling and braking tasks.
• Communicate effectively with crews, dispatchers, and yard controllers.
• Maintain documentation and comply with safety regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
