Job summary

Norfolk Southern is hiring for a conductor role requiring flexibility with on-call availability, 24/7 shifts, and frequent travel away from home. You will start on the extra board and bid on regular assignments as seniority grows, with union affiliation required within 60 days after training.

Training lasts about 20 weeks, with classroom, field, and on-the-job components, including the initial weeks at a training center in McDonough, GA.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must hold a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation.
• Available to work on-call, 24/7, with 90 minutes notice.
• Clean driving record for past 36 months (no drug/Alcohol related suspensions).
• Must pass FRA drug and alcohol screening and be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Build and inspect trains, railcars, and equipment for safe operation.
• Operate remote control locomotives and couple/uncouple equipment.
• Communicate effectively with crews, dispatchers, and yard controllers.
• Maintain documentation and comply with FRA and company safety regs.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
