Job summary

Norfolk Southern Corp. is hiring for a seniority-based Train Conductor role. The position starts on the extra board and requires readiness to bid on a regular assignment as seniority grows.

You must be available 24/7 with minutes’ notice and prepared to spend 2–3 days away from home each week. Union membership is required within 60 days after training. The training lasts about 20 weeks, with initial weeks at a dedicated center in McDonough, GA, and subsequent weeks at your location.

Qualifications

• Seniority-based position on extra board until bid to regular assignment
• Must be available to work on-call, 24/7 with 90 minutes notice
• Willing to work 2-3 days away from home weekly
• Must join a union within 60 days after training

Responsibilities

• Build and inspect trains, railcars, and equipment for safe operation
• Operate remote control locomotives and perform coupling, align drawbars, apply hand brakes, ride railcars
• Communicate with crews, dispatchers, and yard controllers
• Maintain documentation and comply with FRA and company safety regulations
• Must have valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Report to work within 90 minutes and meet FRA medical and eyesight requirements
