Job summary

Watco is hiring a conductor/switchman to control and coordinate train movements while switching railcars at yards, plants, or terminals. The role is manual labor with a prescribed training period and essential duties focused on safety and efficiency.

You will read orders, communicate with crew, and assist with switching operations. The position requires English proficiency, basic math, and reliable attendance; on-the-job training and career development are provided.

Qualifications

• Must pass and/or obtain all required reporting, testing, and certifications.
• Read, write, and communicate in English; basic math skills.
• Ability to demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance.
• Read, write, and communicate in English; understand basic math.
• Learn from directions and apply procedures using good judgment.
• Read switching orders from designated person.
• Supervise and coordinate the activities of train crews.
• Notify engineer of switching orders and move cars to designated locations.
• Talk to crew via radio to share switching information.
• Confer with train dispatcher for stops and delays.
• Throw track switches and couple/uncouple cars.
• Maintain records of cars switched.
• Raise coupling lever and perform switching operations.
