Job summary

The City of Portland is seeking on-call concessions staff to support events at Merrill Auditorium, Fitzpatrick Stadium and other venues. You will handle food and beverages, set up and teardown, and assist guests with a focus on customer service. A valid Class C driver’s license is not required but helpful; multiple shifts available.

Compensation starts at $18.00/hour with an additional $2.00/hour stipend for Maine Celtics events. Applications accepted until filled; background checks apply.

About the City of Portland Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department

The Portland Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Department is comprised of 160 full-time and over 250 seasonal staff dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Portland, Maine. They achieve this by operating cultural venues, running community programs (including Before and After School, Swim Lessons, and Senior Adult programs), and maintaining public buildings, waterfront infrastructure, 70 parks, 40+ miles of trails, 13 cemeteries, and 30 playgrounds. Their diverse team, including Park Maintainers, Lifeguards, Event Managers, Horticulturalists, and many others, works collaboratively to provide spaces and opportunities for social connection, recreation, and community development.

Job Summary

You can be a part of the guest experience at Merrill Auditorium, the James A. Banks Exposition Building, Fitzpatrick Stadium, Ocean Gateway, William B. Troubh Ice Arena and other outdoor parks and City properties. Exciting opportunity to work Maine Celtics games, performances at Merrill Auditorium, and many more events.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Set-up prior and tear-down following an event.
• Preparing, cooking, taking orders, serving, and distributing food and beverages.
• Cleaning before, during and after events.
• Crowd management.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills needed.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Must have a valid Class C driver’s license with a good driving record.

Required Skills & Experience

• Ability to work with others, as well as independently.
• Prior experience handling money.
• Ability to reach, grasp, and stoop and lift/push/pull/move moderate to heavy loads for long hours.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Prior experience in food and beverage operations at a public venue.
• Experience working with diverse populations.

Expected Hours/Schedule

Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Salary

This is an on-call position, with a pay rate starting at $18.00/hour, with an additional $2.00/hour stipend for all Maine Celtics events worked.
