Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Computational Designer to join its Design Computing team in California. This role collaborates across architecture, engineering, BIM and digital delivery to develop computational design, automation, and design technology.

You will build proofs of concept, validate against project conditions, and transition prototypes into scalable BIM-integrated tools, working with senior designers and project teams.

Qualifications

• Advanced expertise in Rhino, Grasshopper, Revit, Dynamo, Rhino.Inside.Revit, Speckle, the Revit API, and custom computational design components.
• Experience with BIM-integrated computational workflows and project-ready automation.
• Proven experience applying computational design to data centers, industrial facilities, or mission-critical projects.
• Proficiency in scripting or programming (Python, C#, JavaScript) focused on reliability and usability.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools to explore and extend workflows while maintaining quality.

Responsibilities

• Apply computational design methods to complex building projects across data centers and manufacturing sites.
• Develop parametric and data-driven workflows that connect geometry, program, and engineering inputs.
• Build and validate proofs of concept with real project data and coordinate with in-house teams to scale tools.
• Partner with platform teams to transition prototypes into firmwide BIM-integrated tools.
