Job summary

BHE GT&S is offering a summer internship for a Mechanical Engineering student in the Compression Services Department at our White Oaks General Office in Bridgeport, WV. The program runs for at least 8 weeks starting June 2027, with potential extension and a housing stipend for candidates from distant areas.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a 4-year ABET-accredited mechanical engineering degree, maintain a 2.5+ GPA, and possess strong MS Word/Excel skills.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a 4-year ABET-accredited Mechanical Engineering degree.
• Must be a rising sophomore, junior or senior by summer 2027.
• Minimum GPA 2.5 (3.0 preferred).
• Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Able to work in a team or independently.
• Must have a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Compare operating data against compressor curves/models (suction/discharge, flow, HP, loading, efficiency).
• Validate compressor models against OEM and field data.
• Analyze operating points to assess equipment configurations.
• Compare fuel consumption, HP and throughput across engines/stations.
• Organize historical data and compare air/fuel curves, ignition timing, and emissions results.
• Trend temperatures, NOx, ammonia usage, catalyst performance and issues on SCR installations.
• Work with vibration, pressure, temperature and performance trends to identify issues.
• Develop basic sizing/performance knowledge for centrifugal compressors.
• Support internship with virtual events aligned to NACE career-ready competencies.
