Job summary

FMI is seeking an experienced Product Engineer - Composites to join the Advanced Materials group. You will lead development, prototyping, and processing of carbon and ceramic composites for high-temperature components, collaborating with materials, process, and manufacturing teams.

The role covers from fundamental research to prototype manufacture and test, supporting TRL/MRL advancement, with emphasis on safety, documentation, and cross-functional execution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline; mechanical engineering preferred.
• Minimum 4+ years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrate results in technical problem solving, product and process development and supporting customer focused programs.
• Prior experience with fabrication of composite materials.
• Ability to follow technical direction and communicate results.
• Ability to follow all safety practices for handling materials and operating processes.
• Experience with writing basic process procedures or instructions.
• Awareness of hazards and to apply proper care and consideration.
• Ability to read, interpret, and execute technical instructions, drawings, manuals, work orders and travelers.

Responsibilities

• Develop manufacturing methods for high temperature thermal protection material systems.
• Assist engineers to solve processing and procedural issues, and create fixtures and tooling solutions.
• Develop, implement, and sustain policies, standards, and procedures for engineering and technical work.
• Adhere to good manufacturing practices and document all activity for component traceability.
• Lead design review documentation creation and provide technical updates.
• Write technical reports and provide updates on progress.
• Develop technical documentation for all projects to support outcomes.
• Coordinate with management, production, facilities, and EHS staff on specifications and procedures.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed and compliant and apply quality standards for certification.
