Job summary

Armed Forces Insurance (AFI) is seeking a Compliance Specialist I or II to join our regulatory compliance team in Kansas. This entry-level role supports nationwide rate, form and rule filings and coordinates filings to ensure state regulatory compliance.

The position requires strong written and verbal communication, MS Office proficiency, and the ability to manage documentation and schedules for regulatory action.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree may be substituted for this requirement.
  • For II, an Associate’s Degree and one year of related experience are required; BA/BS may be substituted.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares fully documented submissions of rate, form, and rule filings to regulatory agencies.
  • Monitors state insurance regulations and notifies departments of changes to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Develops and maintains documentation for completed regulatory actions and coordinates implementation with affected units.
  • Communicates with state insurance departments to request information or clarification as needed.
  • Keeps current knowledge of filing documentation requirements to expedite processing.

What we are looking for…

The Compliance Specialist I/II prepares, submits, and coordinates the internal implementation of rate, form and rule filings for all AFI lines nationwide, ensuring compliance with state regulatory requirements. This position is the entry-level position in the Compliance Specialist Career Path.

Core Functions…
  • Prepares fully documented submissions of rate, form, and rule filings to regulatory agencies and bureaus
  • Monitors changes to state insurance regulations and provides notification of regulated rate, rule, or form changes to department processors for distribution to impacted AFI departments. Coordinates implementation schedules to maintain regulatory compliance
What’s a typical day look like…
  • Compiles all information required to develop fully documented rule and form filing recommendations for review by AFI management and state regulatory authorities;
  • Analyzes regulatory bulletins and circulars to determine potential impact of pending changes on AFI operations and automated systems;
  • Communicates directly with state insurance departments as necessary to request additional information, provide clarification or justification for requested action, and to facilitate implementation of requested actions;
  • Maintains current knowledge of appropriate state filing documentation and formatting requirements so as to expedite processing of requested actions;
  • Creates, distributes, and maintains required documentation (both system and hard-copy) relating to completed actions. Ensures AFI’s continuing regulatory compliance by coordinating with department processors to implement changes that impact AFI operating units;
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of the unit and company objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Compliance Specialist I
    • High school diploma or GED
    • One year of satisfactory job performance in a position with AFI, or two years of relevant work experience
      • Associates Degree may be substituted for this requirement
  • Compliance Specialist II
    • Associate’s Degree in relevant field
    • One year of satisfactory job performance in a position with AFI, or two years of relevant work experience
      • BA/BS Degree may be substituted for this requirement
  • Excellent verbal communications skills
  • Excellent written communications skills, to include the ability to produce well-documented recommendations for approval by AFI management and consideration by insurance regulators
  • Working knowledge of MS Outlook
  • Detailed knowledge of MS Word and Excel
  • Keyboard skills of at least 30wpm
  • Ability to learn to utilize AFI’s computer systems and complex query tools for data access and entry
  • Ability to perform basic math functions to include calculation of percentages and ratios
  • Ability to quickly gather and analyze information needed to determine appropriate action on compliance issues
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to accomplish work according to established priorities and procedures
  • Ability to coordinate with other units/departments and to guide the work activities of other unit staff
